How to add a calendar by URL in Google Calendar

Daniel Arochena · Creator of Calendaro · Updated 26 October 2026

Google Calendar can add a calendar from a web address. This is different from importing a file: a subscription stays connected to the feed.

Use Google Calendar on a computer

Google lets you add a calendar address from its web version on a computer. You cannot start a new URL subscription in the mobile app. Sign in with the account where you want to see it later.

Calendaro does not enter your Google account or request calendar access. It generates a link Google must be able to read without signing in to Calendaro. Although hard to guess and not published in a directory, anyone with the address can read the feed.

Adding the link step by step

Copy Calendaro's HTTPS subscription address. In Google Calendar on the web, click the + beside Other calendars and choose From URL. Paste the complete address and click Add calendar. Do not paste the management page address or an edit credential.

Find the calendar in the list and ensure it is visible. Then open the mobile app with the same account and check its calendar list. If it is missing, first check the account and visibility settings rather than creating another copy immediately.

Subscription versus imported file

From URL keeps a connection to the source. Importing an .ics file copies its events into the calendar you select in Settings → Import & export. That copy receives no later changes from Calendaro.

For changing schedules, avoid adding both options at once: each class may appear twice. If you choose an import for a fixed programme, note where you saved it so you can remove its events without affecting other appointments.

What to expect after editing

Saving in Calendaro changes the content delivered by the feed. Google decides when it checks it again. We provide neither a guaranteed deadline nor a Calendaro button capable of forcing that refresh. ICS does not specify update timing.

For an urgent shift or room change, notify affected people through a direct channel. Downloading and importing again is not consequence-free: it creates a separate copy and may produce duplicates. Do not repeatedly remove the subscription just to try to speed up an update.

Solving common problems

If Google rejects the address, check that you copied the complete link and that it was not revoked or deleted. A session-protected feed cannot use this method; Calendaro's link permits reading by its holder without a password.

If a class is missing, check recurrence weekdays, period dates and selected holidays in Calendaro. If the displayed time shifts, compare the event, Calendaro and account time zones. For duplicates, look for an imported file or second subscription before deleting the original.

Removing it or withdrawing access

In Google Calendar Settings, select the external calendar and use the unsubscribe option. This removes it from that account, not the original in Calendaro.

Revoking the link in Calendaro prevents future server reads using the old address. It does not erase events someone already downloaded or make Google clear its copy immediately. If the calendar should remain in use, share the new address only with the intended people.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add it on Android or iPhone?

Google says new subscriptions cannot be added in its app. Do it in a computer web browser, then check the same account on mobile.

Is there an exact refresh time?

Calendaro guarantees no deadline. Google controls when it checks the external feed.

Why can't I edit its events in Google?

These are events from an external source. Edit them in Calendaro; a subscription is not a write integration into your account.
