Getting your class timetable into your phone calendar
Daniel Arochena · Creator of Calendaro · Updated 26 October 2026
A class timetable is almost a perfect fit for a subscription: it repeats on weekdays, lasts a term or a year and changes now and then.
Separate classes by schedule, not only subject
A subject taught Monday and Wednesday at the same time can be one weekly entry with both weekdays. A Friday lab at another time or room needs a separate entry. Do not group different sessions into one rule merely to reduce the event count.
Keep the official timetable and check groups. A table may contain several degrees, rooms or shifts; the AI cannot know yours unless you specify it. Add the group, year and time zone without uploading other students' personal data.
Bound the term
Write the first and last dates of classes. The recurrence end date is not the finishing time of a session: it stops the timetable continuing through holidays. Check that the first occurrence falls on a selected weekday too.
Fictional example: “Mathematics, Monday and Wednesday 09:00–10:00, room A2, 2 November to 18 December 2026, Europe/Madrid.” This describes two days of a weekly recurrence; the review should show those times, weekdays and limit before you confirm.
Holidays, breaks and exam weeks
Calendaro's holiday exclusion uses the available countries and generated national dates. Select the country and the entry's exclusion setting. It does not automatically know every regional, local or university-specific holiday.
Breaks and weeks without teaching require separate planning. The editor does not offer a free list of EXDATE dates. One option is splitting a class into blocks before and after a break, or using specific-date events. Check the official academic calendar before confirming.
Handling A and B weeks
The current weekly frequency has no fortnightly interval control. Selecting Monday repeats the class every Monday, not only in A weeks. Do not ask for alternation and assume a weekly rule represents it.
For a short period, type the actual dates for each group's sessions as one-off events. For another pattern you cannot express in the review, do not confirm an approximate recurrence: use specific dates or keep that part in your usual calendar.
Rooms, reminders and timetable changes
Add the room in Location to distinguish lectures and labs. A reminder can help, but its presentation depends on the calendar app. Subscription events are edited in Calendaro, not as your own Apple or Google appointments.
If the room changes for the whole period, edit that entry. For one changed session, check how to represent the exception without moving every week; you may need split blocks and a specific date. For urgent changes, also check the institution's official channel.
Extra, duplicate or shifted classes
For classes appearing in summer, check the period's end date. For Tuesday instead of Wednesday, compare the document header with review weekdays. For duplicates, look for a previous import alongside the subscription.
For shifted times on your phone, check source and app time zones before changing all classes. If the feed is updated but mobile is not, a new check may be pending. Do not use the subscription as the only source for exam changes or cancellations.
Frequently asked questions
Does it recognise my university breaks?
Not automatically. Check the academic calendar and split periods or use specific dates for breaks not covered by available holidays.
Is a fortnightly class weekly?
No. The current editor has no two-week interval; use actual dates to avoid classes in the wrong weeks.
Should labs be separate entries?
Yes when their weekdays, times or location differ from lectures. Separating them makes each session easier to review and correct.
